Anthony 'The Iceman' Irvine is somebody whose act, I had read about in footnotes and heard about from friends lucky enough to have experienced his live show in the late 80's/early 90's.
I recently got to meet him through a short convoluted series of events and wrote this song in celebration of his work.
To add to the convoluted series of events, Simon Munnery was playing a club in the local vicinity. I suggested to Anthony that we could maybe ask Simon to shout 'Melt It!' for the song's repeated refrain. Simon was obliging, so after his show, I recorded him shouting 'Melt It!'.
It seemed only right that with Munnery on board, I should ask Robert Wringham, author of Melt It!, the book of The Iceman to add his voice. He sent me a voice message from his holiday in Canada to add to the mix.
I recorded Anthony himself, crooning in the passenger seat of my car, at the end of an afternoon of filming a large block of ice plummeting from the dizzy heights of a suspension bridge, rumoured to possibly be the one from which an infant Winston Churchill fell when holidaying in Bournemouth.
